Google Business Profile Verification Stuck? How to Fix It

The specific fixes for stuck GBP verification: postcards that never arrive, rejected video verification, and what to try when the standard methods fail.

Stuck verification usually falls into one of four buckets: the postcard never arrived or the code expired, phone or email verification is not offered as an option, video verification got rejected, or the listing shows "pending" with no visible next step at all. Each has a specific fix, and none of them is solved by repeatedly requesting the same verification method and hoping for a different result. Here is what to actually do for each.

Postcard verification: lost, delayed, or expired

Postcards typically take one to two weeks and sometimes longer with mail delays; if it has been over three weeks, request a new one rather than continuing to wait, since Google can reissue codes. Confirm the mailing address on file exactly matches what a mail carrier would recognize, since minor mismatches (suite numbers, unit formatting) cause real delivery failures. If a code arrives but has expired by the time you enter it, most accounts can request a fresh code without starting the whole listing over; look for the resend option in the verification panel rather than abandoning the listing.

Phone or email verification not offered

Google offers verification methods based on your business category, history, and account signals, and not every business qualifies for the fast options. If only postcard shows as available, that is Google's system deciding what it trusts for your case, not a setting you can toggle. Ensure your Business Profile phone number is a real, working line answered as your business (a disconnected or unanswered number is a common reason phone verification gets withheld) and that your account is not new or recently flagged, both of which push accounts toward the slower postcard path by default.

Video verification rejected

Video verification, increasingly common for service-area businesses without a public storefront, gets rejected most often for footage that does not clearly show business-identifying signage, equipment, or inventory matching your category, or for video that looks staged rather than a genuine walk-through. Re-record showing your actual signage or vehicle branding, any licenses or certifications displayed, inventory or equipment specific to your trade, and narrate what you are showing as you record; specificity is what separates an approved video from a rejected one, and the details matter more than production quality.

Listing stuck at "pending" with no clear next step

This usually means a request is genuinely still processing, most resolve within the stated window, but if it has meaningfully exceeded the estimate, the Business Profile support team, reachable through the help center, can look up the specific case rather than leave you guessing. Do not create a second listing while the first is pending; a duplicate created during this window becomes its own problem, covered in the duplicate listings guide, and complicates rather than solves the verification delay.

When nothing standard works

Escalate through the Business Profile help community, where documented edge cases sometimes get direct attention faster than the standard support queue, and prepare the same evidence a suspended listing needs: proof of address, business license, and anything establishing the business is real and operates as described, the exact documentation covered in our suspension recovery guide, since verification and reinstatement cases are reviewed by overlapping teams and respond to the same quality of evidence. If you would rather not manage this process alone, verification and profile setup are part of what our local SEO service handles for new and relocated listings.

Common questions

How long is verification supposed to take?

Postcard: one to two weeks typically. Phone and email, when offered: often same-day. Video: usually reviewed within days. Anything running well past these windows is worth actively following up on rather than passively waiting.

Can I operate normally while verification is pending?

Your listing may show limited information and management access is restricted until verified, so treat verification as a priority to resolve rather than something to work around long-term.

Does a failed verification attempt hurt future attempts?

A single failed video or delayed postcard does not penalize you; repeated rapid retries or attempts to game the process can slow things down, so fix the underlying issue before resubmitting rather than resubmitting the same weak attempt repeatedly.
